Silicon / Orthosilicic Acid

MODERATE EVIDENCEMineralLast updated

SCAN DOSE SUMMARY

Silicon is a trace mineral essential for collagen synthesis, bone mineralization, and connective tissue formation. The best-absorbed form is orthosilicic acid (OSA) — BioSil® / Regensil® brands. A 2005 RCT found OSA (10mg/day, 20 weeks) increased femoral BMD by 2% and improved skin elasticity, hair thickness, and nail brittleness. Silicon concentration in connective tissue is 200-600 μg/g — higher than iron. Beer is the richest dietary silicon source (due to barley processing). Dose: 5-10mg/day as OSA. --- *Reviewed by the Dose AI Research Team and Clinical Advisory Board* *Last updated: 2026-04-06*
