Orotic acid is a pyrimidine precursor used as a mineral carrier. Hans Nieper's controversial theory: orotate chelation delivers minerals directly into cells more efficiently. Lithium orotate (see lithium-orotate.md) and magnesium orotate are the most common. Evidence for superior bioavailability is weak — mostly based on 1960s-70s German studies. Magnesium orotate (Magnerot®) is prescribed in Germany for cardiac arrhythmia. --- *Reviewed by the Dose AI Research Team and Clinical Advisory Board* *Last updated: 2026-04-06*
