Theacrine
MODERATE EVIDENCESupplementLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Theacrine is structurally similar to caffeine but acts on BOTH adenosine receptors (like caffeine) AND dopamine receptors (unlike caffeine). The result: stimulation without tolerance development. A 2016 study found 300mg/day theacrine for 8 weeks did NOT produce tolerance (unlike caffeine which develops tolerance in 5-10 days). Also: no habituation, no withdrawal, no BP increase. TeaCrine® (Compound Solutions) is the branded form. Found naturally in kucha tea (Camellia kucha). Dose: 100-300mg/day. Synergistic with caffeine (enhances and extends caffeine's effects).
