AVELOR SUMMARY
Spilanthes contains spilanthol — a unique N-alkylamide that causes a tingling/numbing sensation on contact with mucous membranes. Used as a natural local anesthetic for toothache (hence the name). Also an immunostimulant (activates macrophage phagocytosis). The tingling sensation is from TRPV1/TRPA1 activation followed by desensitization. Used in Ayurveda (Akarkara) for libido and stamina. Limited clinical data beyond traditional use and in vitro immune studies.
