Shoden is a high-potency ashwagandha extract standardized to 35% withanolide glycosides — dramatically higher than KSM-66 (5%) or Sensoril (10%). This means the effective dose is much SMALLER: 120mg Shoden provides ~42mg withanolides, equivalent to ~840mg KSM-66 or ~420mg Sensoril. A 2020 RCT found Shoden (120mg/day) improved sleep quality (onset, duration, and restoration) significantly more than placebo. The high concentration allows lower doses, reducing the large capsules typical of ashwagandha supplementation. **→ See [ashwagandha.md](ashwagandha.md) for comprehensive ashwagandha monograph (all forms)**
Based on independent third-party laboratory analysis
Category pass rate: 38% pass rate — the WORST of any major supplement category. 62% of products failed to deliver claimed withanolide content.
Contamination risk: Low for heavy metals. Primary concern is potency, not contamination.
