NAG is a component of hyaluronic acid and mucin glycoproteins — the building blocks of gut mucosal protection and joint fluid. Unlike glucosamine sulfate (which is used for OA), NAG specifically supports mucin production in the GI tract. A 2000 study found NAG improved UC symptoms in children who failed standard therapy. Also used for skin barrier repair (NAG is a precursor to hyaluronic acid in skin). Dose: 1-6g/day. Distinct pharmacological profile from glucosamine sulfate. --- *Reviewed by the Dose AI Research Team and Clinical Advisory Board* *Last updated: 2026-04-06*
