Fucoxanthin
MODERATE EVIDENCESupplementLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Fucoxanthin is a brown seaweed carotenoid that activates UCP1 in white adipose tissue — converting white fat to thermogenic 'beige' fat. A 2010 study found 2.4mg/day fucoxanthin (from seaweed + pomegranate oil) reduced body weight by 5.5 kg over 16 weeks. The pomegranate oil is essential — fucoxanthin requires a fat carrier for absorption. Xanthigen® is the branded form. Limited to 2-3 studies from the same group. Promising mechanism but thin evidence.
