Dandelion
MODERATE EVIDENCESupplementLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Dandelion root and leaf have distinct uses: ROOT for liver support (bitter digestive stimulant, hepatoprotective) and LEAF for diuretic effects ('pissenlit' in French literally means 'wet the bed'). The diuretic effect is comparable to furosemide in animal studies but MUCH gentler. Contains inulin (prebiotic), taraxasterol (anti-inflammatory), and luteolin. A 2009 pilot study found dandelion leaf extract significantly increased urine output within 5 hours. Dose: 500-1,500mg root extract or 2-4g dried leaf.
