D-Aspartic Acid

LIMITED EVIDENCESupplementLast updated April 2026

SCAN DOSE SUMMARY

D-Aspartic acid was briefly hyped as a natural testosterone booster — our research shows the initial positive study has NOT been replicated in young, healthy men. One trial showed 15% testosterone increase over 12 days in untrained men, but subsequent trials in resistance-trained men found no effect or even slight decreases. The evidence does not support DAA for testosterone boosting in athletic populations.

EVIDENCE GRADES

Testosterone increase (untrained/older men)One positive trial, not replicated (PMID: 19860889)
C
Testosterone (resistance-trained men)Null or negative results (PMID: 24074027)
D
Male fertility (sperm quality)More promising — improved sperm parameters
C+
Luteinizing hormoneAcute increase, uncertain chronic effect
C

OPTIMAL DOSAGE

  • Most studied: 2,000-3,000mg/day (sodium D-aspartate form)
  • Fertility applications: 2,660mg/day for 90 days
  • Cycle: Most protocols suggest 2-3 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Testosterone replacement therapyMinor

May have additive effects on LH/FSH axis; clinically irrelevant if on exogenous T

SAFETY PROFILE

Drug Interactions

Side Effects

  • Irritability and mood changes (anecdotal)
  • Headache (uncommon)
  • GI discomfort

WADA Status

Not Prohibited (but testosterone itself is — if DAA raised testosterone beyond natural range, it could theoretically cause a failed test)

HOW SCAN DOSE SCORES THIS

Products marketed as "testosterone boosters" with DAA as primary ingredient: flag — evidence does not support this claim in trained men
Fertility applications: more evidence; score accordingly
Any "test booster" proprietary blend: automatic flag
